The El Paso VA Health Care System is currently recruiting for Primary Care Physicians and/or Nurse Practitioners to provide comprehensive primary care services at the main campus or Las Cruses, New Mexico VA Clinic. This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP). Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR [(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs. Physical Requirements: See outlined below. English Language Proficiency. Physicians appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. § 7402(d) and 7407(d). Preferred Experience: Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal or Family Medicine Five or more years of experience in Healthcare. Experience working in multi-disciplinary teams, with privileges at an Outpatient Clinic or Hospital Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. ["This announcement is extended until 02-01-2023 The Primary Care Service Physicians report to the assigned Clinic Medical Officer (CMO), reporting to the Associate Chief of Staff (ACOS) for Primary Care. The staff physician is responsible for maintaining professional and technical competencies and skill to deliver effective, timely and high-quality care to patients seen within the El Paso VA Health Care System. General Description of Duties: Evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, consultation, and management of adult and geriatric patients with medical problems according to standard, customary, and usual methods, and techniques. Staff Physician Additional Duties Patient Care - Addresses medical problems, practices within scope of privileges, arrives for Procedure/Clinic on time, and physically attends outpatient clinics. Medical/Clinical Knowledge - Meets CME requirements, and participates in resident/student training. Physicians are required to be board eligilbe/board certified. Practice Based Learning & Improvement - Participates in work groups, committees, or departmental learning activities, and remains abreast of medical advances in his/her area of expertise and incorporates this information to deliver care that meets contemporary standards of care. Interpersonal & Communication Skills - Electronic medical record entries are appropriate in tone and content. Provides appropriate consultative evaluation, treatment, and/or follow-up recommendations. Professionalism - Participates in peer reviews/committees, and absence of validated disruptive or unprofessional Behavior. Systems-Based Practice - Complies with safety, security, and privacy policies, arranges proper clinical coverage during planned absences and complies with hand-off communication policy. Note: Physicians fall under Privileges; delineation of privileges will govern the scope of practice. Supervisory Controls: This is a non-supervisory appointment. The incumbent practices independently, using professional judgment and expertise to make decisions about services and treatment provided to Veterans and their significant others/family members. Incumbent reports to the assigned CMO. The incumbent consults with the CMO and with colleagues as needed to develop knowledge and apply agency policies and practices to new matters. The incumbent's work is reviewed by internal and external agencies on behalf of EPVAHCS for technical adequacy and conformance with standards of care.
