Details Posted: February 10, 2021 Location: Columbia, Missouri Show Map Type: Full Time - Experienced Discipline: Executive The University of Missouri School of Medicine seeks an outstanding academic physician leader to serve as the next Chair, Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Women's Health. This is an extraordinary opportunity for a new Chair to strategically expand care, substantially build research, and enhance training vital to women's health in Central Missouri and beyond. The successful candidate will also hold the endowed William T. Griffin, M.D. and Roberta Ann Griffin Chair. The Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Women's Health, with 30 faculty and 13 residents, trains physicians, fosters innovation through discovery and application, and provides health care of the highest quality. The department is a vital partner of the University of Missouri Health Care (MUHC) Women’s and Children’s Hospital, a 159-bed, freestanding hospital which provides the region’s most comprehensive and complete health care services and technology. Research in the department has seen significant increases in the last few years and spans basic, translational, and clinical programs. The incoming chair will have an opportunity to grow clinical services and will be a key leader in a new Women's and Children's Hospital set to open in 2024. There are multiple opportunities to expand research, including leveraging a nationally prominent reproductive biology program, the Ellis Fischel Cancer Center and NextGen Precision Health, the university's largest investment in research and extension in its history, set to open this fall. The University of Missouri Columbia is one of the few institutions in the country with colleges of medicine, veterinary medicine, agriculture, engineering, nursing, and health professions on one campus. MU’s comprehensive academic medical center, scientists join clinicians in producing lifesaving discoveries and delivering them to patients through a far-reaching network of hospitals, clinics, and telehealth sites. The School of Medicine’s more than 660 faculty physicians and scientists educate more than 1,100 medical students, residents, fellows, and other students seeking advanced degrees. Their research is focused on potential lifesaving discoveries that focus on the most prevalent health problems for the state and nation. Applicants must hold an MD or MD/PhD degree, current certification by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, be eligible for Missouri licensure, and possess academic accomplishments that merit a tenured appointment. The successful candidate will be a physician scientist who can foster collaborative interactions between clinical and basic science faculty members within the department and the university, and work constructively with a culturally diverse faculty and student body. The next chair will work closely with the dean of the School of Medicine, the CEO of the UMHC, and the executive director of the Women’s and Children’s Hospital to enhance integration and productivity through multidisciplinary collaboration.
