Details Posted: February 10, 2021 Location: Denver, Colorado Show Map Salary: $118,900 - $178,360 Type: Full Time - Experienced Discipline: Executive Required Education: 4 Year Degree Job Summary Reporting to the Director of Service for Radiology and Associate Chief Operating Officer, the Administrative Director is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing all technical, administrative, and financial, customer service/patient experience, regulatory, and imaging service quality activities in the Department of Radiology. The incumbent in this position shall be a strategic problem- solver who will be able to effectively manage and oversee a workforce of approximately 110 FTEs and a procedural workload of over 250,000 imaging studies annually. Principal responsibilities include: developing/implementing departmental plans that depict programmatic initiatives in alignment with Denver Health’s strategic imperatives; practicing sound budgetary management principles to include creating defined metrics across the domains of cost, quality, service, and talent -development; spearheading capital equipment evaluation/procurement activities; overseeing implementation of departmental policies, procedures, and protocols; leading employee engagement, recruitment and retention efforts; directing lean management initiatives to streamline patient flow, reduce supply costs, and improve labor productivity/equipment utilization; overseeing ongoing patient safety and quality assurance programs deployed within Radiology to include regulatory compliance initiatives pertaining to the American College of Radiology (ACR) and The Joint Commission; serving as an effective liaison between the department and external parties; and championing initiatives elevating customer services/patient experience within Radiology. The Department of Radiology offers the following imaging services at various Denver Health venues throughout the greater Denver metropolitan area: Computed Tomography (CT), Radiography, Interventional Radiology (IR), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Nuclear Medicine, Positron Emission Tomography (PET)/Computed Tomography (CT), Ultrasound, Breast Imaging and Bone Densitometry (DEXA). Responsibilities Oversees all aspects of human resource management within Radiology to include: engagement, recruitment and retention; analyzing the adequacy of staffing levels and work schedules; ensuring competency of staff through standardized competency testing; and providing progressive counseling, when needed. • Monitors Radiology’s annual operating and capital budgets of each modality. Spearheads coordination of follow-up activities whenever unfavorable budget variances occur. Conceptualizes and implements, in collaboration with subordinate managerial staff, remedial strategies to correct unfavorable budget variances. • Works closely with the Director of Service in developing strategic business plans for introducing new imaging services and equipment into Radiology’s service portfolio. Such efforts include the performance of return on investment (ROI) analyses. • Develops request for proposal (RFP) documents soliciting responses from a wide range of imaging equipment vendors. Coordinates site visits for vendor finalists as well as leads equipment price negotiations. • Develops expansion requests for augmenting current imaging services through seeking operating funds to underwrite additional FTEs, supplies, and/or equipment such that various modalities within Radiology can improve service access and quality. • Oversees preparation of Lean Problem Solving A3 documents for purposes of assessing perceived operating problems, the magnitude of these problems, implications in terms of costs and inefficiencies, and recommendations for change. • Leads negotiation of contracts and agreements with outside vendors concerning imaging supplies and equipment. Ensures that these agreements are monitored by direct reports to ensure vendor adherence with contract provisions; performs follow-up, as necessary, to resolve vendor contract violations. • Ensures positive patient experiences within Radiology by coordinating the analysis of patient complaints, concerns, and suggestions. Oversees necessary follow-up to bring closure to all registered patient complaints. • Oversees maintenance of imaging equipment to ensure that scheduled preventative maintenance activities are performed. Triages nonscheduled equipment malfunctions by directing staff on the appropriate escalation procedures that must be undertaken to reduce equipment downtime. • Oversee construction and renovation projects for patient care areas. Serves as liaison between clinical and construction team. • Coordinates departmental huddles, Gembas, general intradepartmental meetings, and Radiology’s in-services as well as serves as a facilitator at these forums. • Performs one-on-one sessions with direct reports to acquire insights into work challenges, ideas for improving operations, potential needs for additional management tools, and perceptions about the quality of service delivery within the Department of Radiology. • Serves as a departmental representative on various standing institutional committees/meetings (e.g., Continual Readiness Task Force, Leadership Forum). • Oversees coordination of educational programs, continuing medical education (CME) courses, workshops, and in-services to enhance professional growth and development of Radiology’s employee workforce. • Other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Skill in exercising initiative, judgment, and decision-making in solving problems and meeting organizational objectives. • Knowledge of managerial/financial theory and methods sufficient to be able to perform a variety of leadership functions. • Knowledge in how to evaluate imaging technology in terms of functionality, patient safety features, efficiency, and cost efficacy. • Effective interpersonal skill sets that lead to productive communications and collaborations among clinicians, administrative professionals, vendors, regulatory agencies, and external stakeholders. • Expertise in spearheading budgetary, financial, and strategic planning activities. • Demonstrated knowledge of how to perform all personnel functions including hiring, undertaking performance evaluations, pursuing employee promotions, and administering disciplinary actions. • Demonstrated knowledge of state and federal regulatory requirements (e.g., Joint Commission, Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) pertaining to the delivery of imaging services at an acute care hospital. Computers and Technology • Microsoft Office Suite • Epic EMR including analysis and reporting using EPIC tools/analytics and dashboards Education Bachelor's Degree required, preferably in Radiology, Biology, Health Care, or a management related field. Master’s degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Public Administration, or related field preferred. Experience At minimum, 5 years of management experience, preferably directly overseeing imaging operations in a healthcare facility, though experience overseeing similar health care operations will also be considered. Toyota Production System leadership system/Lean and methodology, statistical analysis and research preferred. Credentials Certification with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) is optional. All Certifications and Licenses required for this job must be kept current as a condition of continued employment.
