The Mental Health & Substance Abuse Treatment Services (MHSATS) business line is seeking a dynamic Nurse Executive to manage a multi-disciplinary team of specialists dedicated to helping make a difference in the lives of others. As part of the Direct Care and Treatment (DCT) administration, Mental Health and Substance Abuse Treatment Services (MHSATS) provides behavioral health services across a continuum of care. MHSATS offers treatment for adults, children and adolescents with mental illness and chemical addiction (often co-occurring), as well as other complex health and comorbid conditions. Multidisciplinary teams provide care in inpatient hospitals and supervised living settings guided by evidence-based practices and a person-centered treatment philosophy. Most patients have been civilly committed by a state court.

Job Summary:

The MHSATS Nurse Executive serves as a member of the Executive Leadership team and is the linchpin for creating and maintaining a healthy, therapeutic environment for patients as well as a safe and healthy work environment for staff.  Besides having deep knowledge of current and emerging clinical trends and philosophies of care, the individual serving in this role must be an effective communicator, a strategic thinker, and a risk-taker; know how to build and manage effective teams and strategic alliances; have health care business acumen and understand how to manage within a complex system of care.

Reporting to the MHSATS Executive Director, the Nurse Executive functions at an executive level in an active leadership role with the MHSATS Executive Team, systems governing body, medical staff leadership, and other management teams across DCT. The Nurse Executive is:

• Directly responsible for managing and overseeing departments and other service lines as assigned by the Executive Director.
• Directly responsible ensuring regulatory compliance, safety, quality and for continuing growth within nursing, rehabilitation and dietary services.
• Responsible for helping department leaders establish a measure of performance, increase productivity, quality improvement, cost controls and efficient utilization of resources.

Qualifications include:

To qualify, applicants must:

• Possess a Master's Degree in Nursing.
• Be a Registered Nurse in the State of Minnesota.
• Have five (5) years of progressive management experience in a large, complex health care delivery organization demonstrating program management and design, compliance, policy and procedure development, staff supervision and coordination of services.
