Details Posted: January 10, 2021 Location: Chicago, Illinois Show Map Salary: Open Type: Full Time Discipline: Operations STUDENT INTERN/RESEARCH FELLOW Job Number: 00123941 Job Posting : May 12, 2020, 4:15:35 PM Closing Date : Ongoing Full-time Posting Salary : NON-PAID INTERN/RESEARCH Organization: Health and Hospital Systems Location : John Stroger Hospital Shift : Day Job Summary The Student Intern/Research Fellow will participate in a research fellowship in a one (1) or two (2) years research immersion aimed at creating highly accomplished researchers. This is an unpaid role, requiring a minimum of forty-hours completing research activities on weekly basis. The role will be in the Department of Trauma at John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County Health. The Student Intern/Research Fellow will receive training at a rapid pace from staff managing national and local databases, as well as performing prospective trials. The Student Intern/Research Fellow will be expected to attend Departmental educational conferences and interact with the surgical and emergency medical trainees as well as attending and nursing staff. The Student Intern/Research Fellow will work on various projects, collecting and analyzing data, and assist with teaching national courses such as, stop the bleed, etc. The Student Intern/Research Fellow will be expected to submit several publications and presentations during their fellowship. Overseas graduates and clinicians are welcome to apply. This position is exempt from Career Service under the CCH Personnel Rules. Typical Duties Attends daily research conference and other required meetings. Performs Pub med research and presents results to the research team. Drafts abstracts after consultation with statistician Assists with organizing and completing research projects as well as creates unique individual projects, learns to whet the viability of the project; completes and submits projects to national and international meetings. Creates, submits, and presents publications and presentations. Presents on local and/or national podiums. Composes and submits Institutional Review Board requirements, grants, and other manuscripts as assigned. Assists with organizing and delivering national courses as well as assist with trauma outreach to stakeholders. Assists with quality improvement documentation and analysis within the Department of Trauma. Assists with teaching national courses in conjunction with faculty. Assists with educational and research needs within the department as per direction of the Chair. Performs other duties as assigned including research projects with collaborating institutions. Reporting Relationships Reports to the Chair of the Department of Trauma and Burn Services Minimum Qualifications Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy Medicine (DO) degree or foreign medical school equivalent required (Must provide official transcripts at time of interview). Passed United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) step 1 and 2 (both Clinical Skills and Clinical Knowledge) required (Must provide proof at time of interview) . Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristic Knowledge and competence in Excel, SPSS Excellent verbal and written communication skills necessary to communicate with all levels of staff and a patient population composed of diverse cultures and age groups Demonstrate critical thinking, problem-solving, and relationship management skills Demonstrate analytical and research skills Ability to work with a variety of teams in a complex environment Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines in a fast paced and stressful environment Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and composure when challenged Ability to function autonomously and as a team member in a multidisciplinary team VETERAN PREFERENCE PLEASE READ When applying for employment with the Cook County Health & Hospitals System, preference is given to honorably discharged Veterans who have served in the Armed Forces of the United States for not less than 6 months of continuous service.
