The Clinical Engineering Manager has accountability for the management of people, finances, customer service and business operations for a region. The Clinical Engineering Manager initiates and recommends department policy and direction, monitors off-site work, evaluates and recommends clinical equipment service and replacement needs, manages/monitors the budget, and is responsible for Human Resources issues for Clinical Engineering Technicians. Acts as the customer service liaison and participates in various projects within their region. The Clinical Engineering Department is responsible for maintaining safe and reliable medical equipment.
Responsible for all aspects of the Clinical Engineering Department of assigned region including:
Ensuring the proper working order of medical equipment to comply with schedules for:
Participates in the negotiation of service agreement contracts with outside vendors.
Manages the Clinical Engineering activity regarding all phases of new equipment start up, installations, initial and on-going training.
Directs all department Performance Improvement projects and establishes department benchmarking targets driving customer satisfaction in delivering full functioning equipment in a timely manner.
Reviews contingency plans and incident reports to assure the department is able to provide service in the event of an emergency. Prepares reports and maintains documentation as required by JCAHO and department needs.
Conducts tours of facility with agents of regulatory agencies as assigned. Provides technical advice and input on medical equipment purchases.
Works to develop, implement, monitor and evaluate an ongoing QA program to improve the quality of patient care and/or services.
Participates in the development of a written plan that identifies measurable elements (indicators) of quality and the process of collecting, monitoring and correcting conditions measured by these elements.
Annually reviews and documents review of the QA plan.
Participates in system wide Clinical Engineering activities and meetings to achieve standardization and efficient use of resources through collaboration.
Recommends and manages human resources within the Clinical Engineering Department
Communicates Human Resources policies and procedures in a fair and consistent manner.
Annual performance reviews are completed and presented accurately and on time.
Performs employee disciplinary procedures with appropriate documentation according to Human Resources policy and employee relations laws and guidelines.
Interviews and recommends qualified individuals for employment according to Human Resources policy and employee relation laws and guidelines.
Recommends ongoing training for employees, including orientation and in-services as required by regulatory agencies.
Responsible for effective fiscal management of departmental operations and effective use of resources.
Maintains department budget.
Reviews staffing levels and makes recommendations based on department workload.
Investigates and suggests alternatives to established budget based on the most cost effective use of resources.
Pursues cost savings or revenue generation within area of responsibility.
Proves cost data for services and supplies sold to organizations outside Fairview.
Manages services sold to non-Fairview entities.
Manages and provides input as related to parts and services for Clinical Engineering program.
Demonstrates functional knowledge of emergency plans including fire, disaster, weather alerts and evacuation and location of disaster manual.
Provides training for employees and uses proper infection control techniques and uses appropriate attire to prevent transmission of disease particularly blood/body fluid transmission; wears personal protective equipment as necessary and knows location of infection control manual.
Provides training for employees and understands and follows safety procedures specifically related to the job duties. Assesses safety of the work area and takes initiative to prevent accidents.
Provides training and other resources to provide a safe work environment for all.

BS Business Administration, BSEE or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Five years in a leadership position in a healthcare setting.
MBA or Masters Degree in Engineering.
Ten years of experience within a healthcare setting.
