Professional Development Specialist Overview This position provides career and leadership development expertise to teams in order to influence organizational interventions that support the strategic direction of the organization. Applies learning principles, strategic models and developmental philosophies to plan, design, and implement complex developmental interventions that affect multiple departments or organizations. Provides executive and leadership development to key employees with the organization. May be responsible for the development of training programs aimed at aligning employee performance with organizational goals. About Fairbanks Memorial Hospital Fairbanks Memorial Hospital is a non-profit facility owned by the Greater Fairbanks Community Hospital Foundation. A Joint Commission accredited facility with 152 licensed beds, Fairbanks Memorial Hospital is the primary referral center for residents of Alaska's interior. Position Available: 40 hours per week 8 hour shifts Days Responsibilities ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1. Assesses developmental needs of individuals, teams, entities, and the organization. Makes recommendations to meet key initiatives effectively. Leverages data and best practices to share a vision for leadership, workforce, and provider development, secure organizational support, and structure departmental activities and resources. Utilizes sound instructional design theory to design, develop, and deliver learning opportunities that improve performance. 2. Designs and implements innovative and targeted development programs, events and experiences to support identified needs across the organization. Plays an active role in system-wide learning conferences as appropriate. Partners with key stakeholders and SMEs to update and deliver content, facilitate learning events, and communicate effectively with audiences and demonstrate collaboration. 3. Monitors, measures, and evaluates existing leadership, workforce, and provider development offerings to determine future opportunities, current impact, and ROI. Reviews training materials from a variety of vendors and chooses appropriate materials. Selects and assigns instructors or vendors to conduct training. 4. Responsible for creating, securing support, and implementing a leadership, workforce, and provider development philosophy and strategy that supports organizational needs, and advances the organization in pursuit of Industry Leadership. 5. Effectively establishes partnerships with intersystem initiative work teams and others as appropriate. Initiates, develops, and implements learning opportunities tied to strategic organizational outcomes and initiatives. Performs administrative tasks such as monitoring costs, scheduling classes, setting up systems and equipment, and coordinating enrollment. 6. Supports organizational design and effectiveness efforts by conducting needs assessments and gap analyses. Utilizes data from key indicators and evaluation methodologies to direct focus. Provides recommendations to help clients meet goals and strategic objectives. 7. Remains current in the Learning and Development profession, and ensures skills and knowledge are effectively applied in his/her practice. 8. Organizes or offers training sessions using lectures, group discussions, team exercises, hands-on examples, and other training formats. Delivers training in the form of video, web-based programs, or self-guided instructional manuals. Training also may be collaborative, which allows employees to connect informally with experts, mentors and colleagues through technology. Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards. Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s degree in a related field (organizational development, human resources development, organizational behavior, management/business administration) or equivalent experience. Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in learning and development required. Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in learning design and development, instructional design and delivery, and demonstrated ability to work successfully with leadership teams. Ability to plan, develop, and coordinate multiple projects. Ability to work independently, but also a strong team player. Ability to communicate effectively. Adept at working effectively in a matrix environment. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Master’s preferred. Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
