The American Hospital Association (AHA) is a national organization that represents and serves all types of hospitals, health care networks, and their patients and communities. We are currently seeking a Director, Human Resources Initiatives, for the American Society for Health Care Human Resources Administration (ASHHRA) in Chicago.
The Director, Human Resources Initiatives serves as the internal staff resource on health care human resources content, based on personal knowledge, research, and a robust professional network to enhance the range and quality of ASHHRA offerings, to lead the PMG apprenticeship program, and to offer expertise to AHA’s Workforce Initiative. This role involves identifying and developing health care HR content to use as the basis for ASHHRA programs, products, and services; engaging with members to identify potential new opportunities for value; serving as an internal content consultant in the development of strategic initiatives, educational programs, communications, and other products and services; participating and leading advocacy efforts; and participation on the AHA Workforce team.
Health Care Human Resources Content Development/Management – Develops and implements association-wide content strategy with feedback from staff, members, and leadership. Engages members in surveys, focus groups and committees/task forces to ideate new opportunities for member value. Manages the process to gather content, review, and compile for ASHHRA publications including HR Pulse, white papers, articles, books, website content, and other items to be determined. Contributes to HR Pulse magazine with content suggestions and approval. Provides input and guidance on educational programs, communication initiatives, and other products and services to ensure ASHHRA’s programs, products, and services are timely, relevant, and of high quality.
Project Leadership – Executes project plans that support strategic issues as identified by the ASHHRA Board, Executive Director and AHA. Leads and manages key, high-level projects that advance the strategic objectives of the society including those identified by member feedback and requests. Participates in meetings, conference calls and other activities necessary to develop project charters, implementation timelines, and outcome measures. Provides regular status updates to the Executive Director and key stakeholders.
Content Expertise – Keeps abreast of key issues faced by the membership and identifies and recommends professional development resources needed by the membership. Serves as the internal content consultant for all ASHHRA staff and select volunteer committees and task forces. Collaborates with the AHA Workforce Initiative to provide insight from an HR perspective and contribute to strategic product and program development to meet stated goals.
Advocacy – Participates in ASHHRA’s advocacy activities including developing and disseminating position and advisory statements as well as recommended practices on key health care HR issues to both membership and external audiences. Serve as staff liaison to AHA Policy Group and ASHHRA Advocacy Committee. Manages the annual hill visit.
Collaboration – Serves as staff liaison to the ASHHRA Executive Advisory Council. Leads the PMG apprenticeship program to meet committed deadlines and expectations. Develops collaborative relationships and represents ASHHRA to industry partners in support of ASHHRA’s mission.
Research – Develops and manages ASHHRA’s research agenda and related projects, working with outsourced researchers, and academic institutions. Represents ASHHRA on workforce research initiatives through the AHA and external sources.
Required Education: Master's Degree
Desired fields of study: Human Resources.
Years of experience may be substituted for education.
7-10 years of experience with a minimum of 7 years of human resources experience.
Experience within the health care field is required.
Must have indepth knowledge of health care human resources, health care specific workforce issues, and evolving issues in the field.
Intermediate computer and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel) skills are required.
Ability to learn new technology is required.
