Beth Israel Lahey Health (BILH) is a comprehensive, geographically distributed network of community-based physicians and services, world-class academic medical centers and teaching hospitals, leading community hospitals, and a premier orthopedics hospital that form a truly integrated healthcare delivery system in the Boston market. It is the result of a merger between Lahey Health and Beth Israel Deaconess creating the largest hospital merger in Massachusetts in more than 20 years. The merger creates the second-largest hospital system in Massachusetts. It establishes a $5.4 billion health care system, with 2,400 beds, 1,000 primary care physicians, 3,600 specialists, and a total workforce of almost 36,000 employees. The new health system is building on the strengths of its legacy organizations to reduce health care spending while improving access to high-quality care in the Commonwealth, in other words, by delivering higher quality care at a lower cost.
In this highly influential C-suite role, the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) will report to the Beth Israel Lahey Health President/Chief Executive Officer and be responsible for the overall human resources strategy, initiatives, programs and activities for BILH. The CHRO will provide senior level leadership to assure that human resources will be a strategic advantage for all of health system its affiliates and its partners.
This is a tremendous greenfield opportunity to create something completely new and make a huge difference. If done right, the CHRO can create a novel Human Resources function in support of a major academic and community medical center model. There is significant opportunity for personal and professional growth.
The ideal candidate for this CHRO role must be a CHRO with at least ten years of progressive leadership experience in Human Resources with most of this executive experience in a related complex, large healthcare environment. Integration experience is a must have. In addition, the successful candidate’s track record should possess superb HR skills and a knowledge of (or experience with) contemporary organizational workforce and leadership development. Also required are strategic skills. We are looking for a visionary, with the ability to anticipate future HR trends, help establish strategic goals and objectives for human resources and integrate them within the overall BILH strategic objectives.
