University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (UT Southwestern) in Dallas, Texas announces an exceptional opportunity for an experienced physician practice management executive to serve as Director of Ambulatory Operations, Surgical Clinics. One of the largest medical schools in the country, UT Southwestern annually trains about 3,700 medical, graduate, and health-professions students, residents, and postdoctoral fellows each year. Ongoing support from federal agencies, such as the National Institutes of Health, along with foundations, individuals, and corporations, provides approximately $422.6 million per year to fund more than 5,700 research projects.
The Director of Ambulatory Operations for the Surgical Clinics works in partnership with department and health system leadership to ensure the successful management of an assigned portfolio of outpatient clinics across a range of surgical subspecialty areas, including: Cardiac, General Surgery, Vascular, Ophthalmology, Oral-Dental, Otolaryngology, Plastics, Dermatology, Urology and Orthopedics. The Director provides oversight for the operational and financial performance of multiple surgical clinics, including the coordination of institutional resources to optimize patient access, clinical workflows, quality/safety programs, facilities, budgets, human resources, and strategic planning to achieve integrated clinic operations and Health System objectives.
UT Southwestern faculty physicians provide patient care at UT Southwestern University Hospitals & Clinics, Parkland Health & Hospital System, Children’s Medical Center, Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, VA North Texas Health Care System, and other affiliated hospitals and community clinics. Faculty and residents care for more than 100,000 hospitalized patients and oversee approximately 2.2 million outpatient visits a year. The UT Southwestern Ambulatory Surgical Clinics account for more than 250,000 of the health system’s total number of outpatient annual visits.
Ideal candidates will demonstrate a minimum of seven years of progressive practice management experience in health system ambulatory surgical clinic operations, preferably with multi-site responsibility. An advanced degree in business, healthcare administration, public health or nursing is required. Proven leadership working with physicians to enhance productivity, advance quality and service metrics, standardize processes, and improve practice operations is required. Experience within an academic setting is highly desirable.
