This postition is appointed in the Diagnostic Imaging Service of VAPSHCS, Seattle Division. The Successful candidate will be an independentlicensed practitioner holding afull unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgeryin any state.Preferred candidates willbe specialists in Diagnostic Radiology.Duties will include exercising administrative, programmatic, clinical and academic oversight of radiology programs to ensure delivery of quality services. The position reports directly to the Director of Diagnostic Imaging Serviceand may called on to function as the Deputy Director of the service.
Duties include but may not be limited to the following:
- Coordinating and integrating both clinical and administrative aspects of the programs into a comprehensive package of services to meet the needs of the veteran population
- Continuously reviewing and evaluating the professional performance of all individuals with clinical privilege s.
- Ensuring that there is compliance with all Joint Commission functions and standards that are applicable to radiology programs
- Participating in the recruitment process to ensure the hiring and retention of the highest quality radiology staff and participation in employee/ labor relations matters as appropriate.
- Provides direct patient care in a hospital setting to adults with acute and chronic medical conditions and serves as a consultant to other physicians
- Assist, train, supervise and mentor radiology residents in the perfonnance of radiographic procedures
- Provide education and training to members of the medical staff through various conferences committees and lecture series.
- Provide direction and monitor performance of employees within the Radiology section.
- Provide oversight of all human resources actions pertaining to the section
- Oversee the credentialing and privileging process for physicians, including practice monitoring and evaluation, to include, but not limited to OPPE and FPPE.
- Develops departmental policy and procedures, prepares proposals, quarterly reviews, management briefings, annual budget proposals and equipment/personnel requests.

Citizenship. Citizen of the United States. Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.
Education. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are:
(1) Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted, or
(2) Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) of the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted.
(3) For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, facility officials must verify with the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) that the applicant has met requirements for certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate, if claimed by the applicant.
Licensure and Registration. Physicians must possess a current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. The physician must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure.
Residency Training. Physicians must have completed residency training or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Approved residencies are:
(1) Those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education, the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA), in the list published for the year the residency was completed, or
(2) Other residencies or their equivalents which the local Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training.
English Language Proficiency. Physicians appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).
- Board Certified in the practice of radiology by the American Board of Radiology
- Fellowship training in any one of the Radiological sub-specialties
- BLS and ACLS certified
- Incumbent should be eligible for faculty appointment in the Department of Radiology, at the University of Washington, Seattle at the appropriate level of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor.

Physical Requirements: ?,The position will require walking, standing, or sitting for periods of up to or beyond 10 to 12 hours each day. The position will require prolonged periods of sitting in a dimly lit room, interpreting radiologic studies from images presented on a series of computer monitors. The position requires the prolonged use of a hand operated computer mouse and dicatation handset as well as frequent interaction with a computer keyboard. In addition, the incumbent will need to bend, lift and turn. Under urgent or emergency situations, the incumbent will need to run to a designated area within the Service.
