The Manager of Benefits is responsible for directing and overseeing the day to day operations for Benefits at UW Health. This includes establishing, meeting and continuously monitoring the department goals and objectives while maintaining alignment with the strategic goals and objectives for UW Health. The Manager is responsible for training and providing direction to members of the Benefits team. The benefits team is responsible for design, administration and communication of the benefit programs for UW Health, consistent with the mission, values and policies of the organization.
Additionally, the Manager works collaboratively with colleagues across the UW Health HR department to promote the alignment, communication and successful implementation of UW Health’s benefit strategies where appropriate. The Manager also works closely with payroll and HRIS to insure proper set up and deduction of benefit plans and premiums.
The Manager works closely with the Director to provide programmatic, operational and strategic leadership for benefits, and works closely with UW Health employees, physicians and leaders.
Work Schedule: 100% FTE, 40 Hours per week; Monday through Friday, hours from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Hours may vary based on the operational needs of the department.

Bachelors Degree in Human Resources or related field
Masters Degree in Human Resources or related field
Five years of relevant experience in benefit administration that includes experience in managing the administration of benefit programs, developing plan materials, identifying/implementing opportunities to improve benefits plans and related costs and leading complex benefit related projects within a large organization. Two years of experience in a leadership role.
Three years or more experience in a leadership role. Experience working in a healthcare organization.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
Demonstrated leadership skills and abilities which include experience successfully managing and mentoring staff.
Demonstrated extensive understanding of the laws and regulations that impact benefits (i.e. ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ACA, IRS and DOL requirements).
Demonstrated project management skills and experience, which includes the proven ability to develop sound proposals and successfully implement programs, and manage several complex projects simultaneously while working under pressure to meet deadlines.
Demonstrated ability to develop accurate and clear communications that appropriately communicates programs and projects to all levels from executives and physicians to employees.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees, which is necessary to collaborate with others to address difficult and controversial issues. Excellent problem solving skills and analytical skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, reporting tools and human capital management systems (i.e. PeopleSoft). Advanced knowledge of statistical methods, data analysis and presentation.
Physical Requirements -Sedentary: Ability to lift up to 10 pounds maximum and occasionally lifting and/or carrying such articles as dockets, ledgers and small tools. Although a sedentary job is defined as one, which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and other sedentary criteria are met.
